NAU MAI, HAERE MAI

Mauri Tau practices slow your world down in a supported way.

Create for yourself a nurturing and grounding space to reconnect with your 3 bodies: ā-tinana (body), ā-hinekaro (mind), and ā-wairua (spirit) as you re-move the tensions and restore your systems gently.

In relationship with Hine Atua and inspired by taiao (nature) in playful ease with our own bodies, Mauri Tau practices facilitate a culturally-informed somatic movement experience that guides your whole being into a deeper sense of relaxation and restoration.

What is Mauri Tau?

At its heart, Mauri Tau practices are about providing a safe process for individuals to free themselves of tensions and MOVE STUFF, literally but in a gentle way. Movement, or dance, and vocals, or singing are our oldest human medicines, innate to our core imprints evidenced through every human culture.

We live in a time and world where we are desperate to slow down while we keep our bodies running at overwhelmingly demanding levels, like being in haka mode non-stop. Movement is transformative, literally changing our experience and we can move our bodies differently to balance ourselves out.

Mauri Tau practices are the ways experienced movement teacher and practitioner Cathy Livermore has developed to slow her body and her world down guided by Te Ao Māori and led by different Hine Atua. Through the past 10 years Cathy has slowed the world down for thousands of others. There is so much to draw from and be inspired by in our Māori world that is rongoā (medicine) for us today! Cathy draws upon 20 years of experience in somatic practices, performing arts, body-based therapies and Rongoā Māori to guide herself and others on a journey of self-discovery that supports the hauora (wellbeing) of all your bodies.

You are encouraged to move freely as you embrace your unique mauri through gentle, body-based practices. Mauri Tau offers a compassionate approach to well-being, helping you settle your body, ease your mind, and restore balance to your life. Cathy invites you to experience the restorative and transformative power of deep listening—to yourself and the world around you as you reset your systems.

You’re invited to start your journey today trying some of our free Mauri Tau introductory practices.

Find a free space in your home or else head outside into the taiao (nature) with your headphones on and let yourself experience the ease and relaxation it is possible to create for yourself through Mauri Tau practices.

If you find it hard to stay focussed for the whole practice, especially the sitting orientated practices, IT IS OK! Its just your nervous system showing you that you need to practice slowing down and settling into Mauri Tau. The movement practices are designed especially for those of us who cant sit still comfortably, they allow you to move while gently unwinding tension.

SO dont give up, just take small steps and do as much as you can today and each time you return to do a practice, even if its just 5mins of one, you are teaching your body how! It may feel uncomfortable at times, it will take a little while and practice but slowly you will change how you feel in your body, I promise.

You have to begin somewhere and I invite you to begin here.

Cathy brings a unique blend of lived experience, ancestral inspiration and guidance, and creative and professional expertise. Mauri Tau practices were created inspired by the transformative power of movement Cathy has experienced across her career as a professional dance artist and body practitioner. She shares Mauri Tau practices because she has experienced how they can make a real, positive and felt difference to a person’s experiences on physical, mental and spiritual levels. Cathy loves how mōhiotanga Māori provides the deeper understanding of modern bioscience and neuro-science dis(re)coveries around wellbeing but mostly just loves the deep inspiration and support she experiences for her hauora moving within Te Ao Māori.
